The City of Knoxville is considering an ordinance to establish regulations for short-term rentals. These include rentals booked through online platforms such as Airbnb and Home Away, which people use to rent out part or all of their personal residences for short periods of time.
Wesley Neighbors has taken a stand against short term rentals. The executive committee feels most of our neighbors bought their current houses to live in and raise a family in a “single family housing” community with restrictions barring businesses and hotels. We feel that short term rentals would be just that, a business. We like knowing our neighbors and the fact that our neighbors will invest money, time and labor in their homes keeping property values stable.
On May 9, 2017, the Executive Committee of the WNCA approved the following Resolution and sent it to the Mayor and City Counsel.
"Be it Resolved that the Executive Committee of the Wesley Neighbors Community Association is opposed to allowing Short-Term Rentals (STRs) in Residential Zoning Districts R-1 and R-1E in the City of Knoxville, as proposed in an Ordinance which will be considered in the near future by the Knoxville City Council."
We simply believe that our neighborhoods being zoned a single family household neighborhood should be just that and not a business opportunity that at the end of the day will change the nature of our community and lower the quality of life as well as the value of our properties.
